Privacy Policy

Effective date: 19 August 2025 — Last updated: 19 August 2025

Short summary: Askwave lets session creators collect anonymous questions and reply with short videos. We collect minimal data to run the service (session data, question content, media, and basic technical metadata). We do not sell personal data. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to exercise your rights.

What we collect

We try to collect only what we need to operate the service. Categories below describe the main data types.

Account data

If you register an account we collect identifiers such as name, email, and account preferences.

Session & question content

Session creators supply session metadata (title, description, settings). Participants may submit questions (text, optional hint, and any attached media or references). Questions submitted through public session links are anonymous to the extent the participant does not provide identifying information.

Media

Video replies are treated offline: Askwave does not currently provide a built-in feature to upload or host videos. Hosts typically record and manage videos outside the platform and may link to externally hosted media (for example, a video URL). We may store references or metadata for externally linked media when provided by a host (for example, a URL or caption) but we do not host video files on our servers as part of the core product today. If we introduce an upload/hosting feature in the future, we will update this policy to explain how those media files are stored and handled.

Technical & usage data

We log IP addresses, device/browser information, and basic analytics to help operate and secure the site.

How we use information

  • Provide and maintain the service (hosting sessions, serving media, account management).
  • Moderation and abuse prevention to keep communities safe.
  • Analytics and product improvements.
  • Communications (security notices, support replies).

Sharing and disclosures

We do not sell personal data. We may share data with:

  • Service providers (e.g. hosting, object storage, email delivery, analytics, payments). These providers process data on our behalf under contract.
  • Legal obligations — when required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property.

If you want a list of our current subprocessors (hosting, storage, analytics, payment processors), contact contact@askwave.fun.

Retention

Retention depends on the data type and user actions:

  • Questions & session content: retained until the session is deleted by its creator or until the creator requests deletion.
  • Account data: retained while the account is active and for a short period after deletion for backups and legal compliance.
  • Media files: retained as long as they are associated with an active session or account unless removed.

Contact us if you need a specific retention schedule for a dataset.

Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction you may be able to access, correct, export, or request deletion of personal data. To submit a request:

  1. Email contact@askwave.fun with the subject line "Data request" and describe the request (access, export, delete).
  2. We may ask for information to verify your identity before processing sensitive requests.
  3. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe required by law where applicable.

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for session management, preferences, and analytics. You can control cookies via your browser. Third-party services used for analytics or ads will have their own cookie policies.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit and at rest. No online system is perfect — if you suspect a breach, contact us immediately at contact@askwave.fun.

Children

Our service is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have collected data about a child, contact us to request removal.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Significant changes will be communicated by email or prominent notice on the site. The effective date above indicates the current policy version.
